Been home since Wednesday. Back to work. But have to revisit the event. This was a chance of a lifetime, now that I look back. I’m glad that I didn’t decline, as I was first thinking. Arrived in LA on Sunday morning. The limo (actually a black Lincoln Navigator, with Igor as the driver) picked me up at LAX. It really was a relatively quick ride (it’s only 11 miles) to the W on Higard Avenue. Need to finish getting ready and head off to the New Moon premiere. Received a reminder to leave all cell phones, cameras, video, etc., etc., etc., in your car or at home. I gave a quick thought about taking the phone, but they will probably have hand scanners. I wouldn’t want to [...] Waiting for breakfast to be delivered. Today is the day, and it looks / sounds like a fever pitch is rising outside. This morning, at 07:00, I heard a bunch of screams and shouts from outside. The windows are closed, and I’m on the sixth floor of the W in Westwood. From the bedroom window I can see part of the lines that are forming, literally stretching for blocks. Apparently some lucky fan won some tickets, “AHHHHHHHHHHH, I WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!” Well, actually, it’s the W in Westwood Village. Room is great, and was ready for early check-in. After a long night it was good to relax for a bit. I have to admit, I’m melting. I never was a hot weather person. It’s “only” 73F / 23C and these people are cold. You gotta be kiddin’ me?!? I’m a bucket of sweat… But have the AC in the sitting area and bedroom down to 65. Feeling much better. As usual, waiting until the last minute to pack. There is always the general idea of what I want to take on a trip, but there is a bit more confusion around this one. I’ll probably make some fashion faux pas, but hey, I’m just “some dude from Alaska with a number after his name.” But throwing a few things together, for better or worse, for the New Moon premiere in LA. We went to breakfast for our birthday this morning. It was a nice day, but it felt a bit chilly, and we weren’t in any hurry. Anyway, I really don’t ever pay much attention to folks, but wouldn’t you know it… I noticed a 20-something girl, and her boyfriend/husband. What caught my eye wasn’t the people, as much as she was holding a large book. She set it down, and wouldn’t you know it, it was “New Moon”. OK, so I won. Got a couple of emails from Wendy today regarding the Twilight Sage, New Moon premier. She’s been absolutely great and really making an effort to make sure everything goes smooth and to my satisfaction. She’s getting ready for a vacation, so probably won’t hear much for a week… Got an email from the office that “you have another box from Amazon.” I hadn’t ordered anything lately, so figured it must be the “stuff.” Got a couple of emails, both from Amazon and the promotion fulfillment folks. Both have been really excited (for me) and very helpful and accomodating. |
