Been home since Wednesday. Back to work. But have to revisit the event. This was a chance of a lifetime, now that I look back. I’m glad that I didn’t decline, as I was first thinking. Arrived in LA on Sunday morning. The limo (actually a black Lincoln Navigator, with Igor as the driver) picked me up at LAX. It really was a relatively quick ride (it’s only 11 miles) to the W on Higard Avenue. Need to finish getting ready and head off to the New Moon premiere. Received a reminder to leave all cell phones, cameras, video, etc., etc., etc., in your car or at home. I gave a quick thought about taking the phone, but they will probably have hand scanners. I wouldn’t want to [...] Waiting for breakfast to be delivered. Today is the day, and it looks / sounds like a fever pitch is rising outside. This morning, at 07:00, I heard a bunch of screams and shouts from outside. The windows are closed, and I’m on the sixth floor of the W in Westwood. From the bedroom window I can see part of the lines that are forming, literally stretching for blocks. Apparently some lucky fan won some tickets, “AHHHHHHHHHHH, I WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!” Well, actually, it’s the W in Westwood Village. Room is great, and was ready for early check-in. After a long night it was good to relax for a bit. I have to admit, I’m melting. I never was a hot weather person. It’s “only” 73F / 23C and these people are cold. You gotta be kiddin’ me?!? I’m a bucket of sweat… But have the AC in the sitting area and bedroom down to 65. Feeling much better. Got a couple of emails, both from Amazon and the promotion fulfillment folks. Both have been really excited (for me) and very helpful and accomodating. I looked back, and the last post was somewhat negative. I’ve had a change of heart, and all of a sudden am really starting to look forward to this event. I called the promotion fulfillment folks handling the travel for the Sweepstakes. I spoke with Jackie (I’m not sure of the spelling) and she was very friendly and helpful, as has been everyone involved to date. I’ll start by saying I’ve never won anything of any consequence. So, a few weeks ago, I was adding books to my “wish list” on Amazon, since that is a good way to keep track of things as I am browsing. There was a button to enter some Wish List 10th Anniversary Sweepstakes. I didn’t pay any attention, but clicked the button and forgot about it. |
