Moose out front…

I saw the tracks in the front yard and had wonder if the camera captured it. Thanks to the webcams, Mom finally caught a critter.

Almost overlooked, Jazz Greats

I snagged a couple of tickets in the front row! But the amazing thing, after purchased the tickets for the Friday, November 13 concert, I received an email from The Breeze, KNIK 88.7 FM in Anchorage. It was from the program director informing me I had won a pair of tickets to the event. That was great, but since I already had tickets, I asked a guy at work if he would want them. He wasn’t familiar with Jeff Golub and Rick Braun who headlined the show, but he would ask his wife. If she didn’t want to go, he was sure one of his daughters would like to attend.

It’s that time of year…

Was raining “down below” this evening. As I climbed the hill toward home, the drops were mixed with some big, wet, sloppy snowflakes.

Wind is blowing…!

The wind is blowing as we move in through fall. Autumn winds blow across Anchorage…

KNIK The Breeze is back in Anchorage!

Anchorage is small market. In late August, KNIK announced a change in programming. This was attributed to the down turn in the economy, and the need for ad revenue. That is a valid argument, until you look at the market.
KNIK, The Breeze, was the only jazz station in Anchorage. The decided to abandon this format, and go with the same old pop / light rock as almost every other station. I will admit, 105.7 disappeared from my radio presets. Not only can I get that programming “somewhere else” but with a better signal.

The weather in Anchorage is changing…

Ok, I haven’t posted in a while, since I have been all consumed with reading on the Kindle. But, not so busy to notice the changing seasons.

Internet Outage – Gee, thanks ACS!

Well, “stuff” happens. I have been very pleased over the years with my ACS DSL service. I use this to connect this server to the world. It’s not the fastest but has been, for the most part, very reliable. But nothing is perfect.

Tonight, somewhere between 17:52 and 17:57 there was a total Internet blackout. I thought it must be me, but other than resetting the DSL modem didn’t do much until I checked a bit further. A server failure in Seattle was impacting all of ACS’s Internet customers.

A rainy day in Anchorage

A little bit of rain finally fell on Anchorage, Alaska today. It’s been warm and sunny and dry for a month or more. We certainly can’t complain.

Cradlepoint PHS300 – First Impression

I’ve been toying with picking up a portable cellular router for quite some time. At first glance, the Cradlepoint PHS300 seems to fit the bill. This device from 3GStore.com, combined with my ACS “Internet Key” (the Franklin Wireless CDU-680 CDMA wireless modem) made the perfect match.

Another sunny day in Anchorage

This weather has been phenomenal! More blue skies (well with a little smokey haze at times) and lots of sunshine. A summer to remember in Anchorage, Alaska.
