Well, “stuff” happens. I have been very pleased over the years with my ACS DSL service. I use this to connect this server to the world. It’s not the fastest but has been, for the most part, very reliable. But nothing is perfect. Tonight, somewhere between 17:52 and 17:57 there was a total Internet blackout. I thought it must be me, but other than resetting the DSL modem didn’t do much until I checked a bit further. A server failure in Seattle was impacting all of ACS’s Internet customers. I’ve been using the “new” router a couple of days. Today, I did the first test on battery power. The Cradlepoint PHS300 ran a full 2:40! Impressive performance! Hey, all I can say, they were good to their word. To me, that speaks volumes. Actually I *LOVE* Cradlepoint and the 3GStore.com I used the router Wednesday morning before departing the Slope. My flight left Deadhorse and traveled through Barrow on the way to Anchorage. I checked email, looked at my server, checked my webcam, and shut down for the flight home. And that, was the last time the device was operational… I’ve been toying with picking up a portable cellular router for quite some time. At first glance, the Cradlepoint PHS300 seems to fit the bill. This device from 3GStore.com, combined with my ACS “Internet Key” (the Franklin Wireless CDU-680 CDMA wireless modem) made the perfect match. But this time, from a different site. Noticed this “graphic” posted to a lot of forum posts. These were mainly broadband wireless or cellular data related sites. You know, the ones that talk about wireless data from cell phones and cellular modems. |
