A Long Day…Not so long, but started early this morning. Had to get a haircut at the mall. My appointment was a 10AM. That was good, so it was easy to find a place to park. As a matter of fact, I parked right in front of the main door; first spot. When they called to confirm my appointment yesterday, I was warned that the mall ‘rent-a-cops’ might give me a hard time about parking since it’s the holiday season. The mall doesn’t open until 11AM (I think) on Sunday. They recommended I park along the west side, near the employee area. Ok, thanks… But, me, I’m just obstinate sometimes and would welcome a run in with those folks. Hey, I’m a paying customer! Give me a hard time and then let me run it up the flagpole to the mall office. Oh well, in my own mind, at least… No one roughed me up over parking outside the main door. I guess the employees are warned about parking in the ‘prime customer spots’ especially in this busy season. They were being nice in letting me know. But in any event, no hassles. Got through with my haircut and had time to kill before I met Laura for brunch. Wandered around the mall and actually have to admit I got a bit of Christmas shopping done. Not much more than a couple of stocking stuffers, but certainly I appear to have started before my usual December 24 shopping day. Hey, Christmas started early this year… We met up at Village Inn. She had come from a workout at the Alaska Club. I barely use my treadmill and weight machine anymore. [Too lazy...] But had a nice, simple brunch and then decided to brave the crowds at Costco. I stop there once a blue moon, we did find Laura a good deal on a 500GB portable hard drive with a case, etc. A good price for the WD at $84. I keep telling her she needs to back up her Mac, and all her schoolwork. Now she doesn’t have an excuse. Bought a few of those low power / “green” light bulbs. Found an ‘outside’ flood that only uses 23W. Replaced the 150W flood out back and don’t see a difference in the illumination. If anything, this new bulb seems to be more ‘white’ in color and less of the tungsten ‘yellow.’ As the regular tungsten bulbs expire around the house, I’m replacing with the fluorescents. LEDs are the coming “thing” and consume power in the single digit watts, but they just haven’t matured enough to be mainstream. Once the price comes down a bit, and they are more widely available, that will be the way to go. Went to Sam’s and wandered around to compare. By that time, the feet were getting tired, and after a few passes, it was time to go. Just finished laundry and probably going to go read. On the second book of Don Brown’s Navy JAG series on the Kindle. Good stuff! Tags: Sunday, brunch, shopping, Costco, Sam’s Club, Dimond Center, mall, Village Inn Powered by Qumana |
