Another milestone…

Blasted through 60,000 tracks, with Yangin, by Zarema. This was from the “W Hotels: The Sound Of Wonderlust” CD obtained on my recent stay at the W in Westwood. Added this track on November 22.

Since then, have continued to add OOP LPs added from vinyl. Just passed 61,178 tracks. The latest LP is Ron Carter’s “Empire Jazz” LP from 1980.

Almost overlooked, Jazz Greats

I snagged a couple of tickets in the front row! But the amazing thing, after purchased the tickets for the Friday, November 13 concert, I received an email from The Breeze, KNIK 88.7 FM in Anchorage. It was from the program director informing me I had won a pair of tickets to the event. That was great, but since I already had tickets, I asked a guy at work if he would want them. He wasn’t familiar with Jeff Golub and Rick Braun who headlined the show, but he would ask his wife. If she didn’t want to go, he was sure one of his daughters would like to attend.

This week in review… New Moon saga

Been home since Wednesday. Back to work. But have to revisit the event. This was a chance of a lifetime, now that I look back. I’m glad that I didn’t decline, as I was first thinking.

Arrived in LA on Sunday morning. The limo (actually a black Lincoln Navigator, with Igor as the driver) picked me up at LAX. It really was a relatively quick ride (it’s only 11 miles) to the W on Higard Avenue.

It’s almost time…

Need to finish getting ready and head off to the New Moon premiere. Received a reminder to leave all cell phones, cameras, video, etc., etc., etc., in your car or at home. I gave a quick thought about taking the phone, but they will probably have hand scanners. I wouldn’t want to [...]

Today is the night of the New Moon

Waiting for breakfast to be delivered. Today is the day, and it looks / sounds like a fever pitch is rising outside.

This morning, at 07:00, I heard a bunch of screams and shouts from outside. The windows are closed, and I’m on the sixth floor of the W in Westwood. From the bedroom window I can see part of the lines that are forming, literally stretching for blocks. Apparently some lucky fan won some tickets, “AHHHHHHHHHHH, I WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!”

Made it to Hollywood!

Well, actually, it’s the W in Westwood Village. Room is great, and was ready for early check-in. After a long night it was good to relax for a bit.

I have to admit, I’m melting. I never was a hot weather person. It’s “only” 73F / 23C and these people are cold. You gotta be kiddin’ me?!? I’m a bucket of sweat… :P

But have the AC in the sitting area and bedroom down to 65. Feeling much better.

Counting down to New Moon

As usual, waiting until the last minute to pack. There is always the general idea of what I want to take on a trip, but there is a bit more confusion around this one. I’ll probably make some fashion faux pas, but hey, I’m just “some dude from Alaska with a number after his name.”

But throwing a few things together, for better or worse, for the New Moon premiere in LA.

Fat Kids

Fat Kids. A motivational poster.
Those little bastards ruin everything.

Maybe Twilight Saga: New Moon *is* popular

We went to breakfast for our birthday this morning. It was a nice day, but it felt a bit chilly, and we weren’t in any hurry.

Anyway, I really don’t ever pay much attention to folks, but wouldn’t you know it… I noticed a 20-something girl, and her boyfriend/husband. What caught my eye wasn’t the people, as much as she was holding a large book. She set it down, and wouldn’t you know it, it was “New Moon”.

New Moon (The Meadow)

Ok, will have to wait and see where in the movie this song appears. Probably the end credits, but you never know.
