Got an email from the office that “you have another box from Amazon.” I hadn’t ordered anything lately, so figured it must be the “stuff.” I “play” with Windows. I “use” OS X. However, there are a few programs that still run under Windows only, and there just isn’t a suitable (or any) replacement for the Mac. A couple of things I only use very infrequently, such as Visio or AutoCAD, or even ArcGIS. For that reason, the Mac works well, and does the things I need so much better. Got a couple of emails, both from Amazon and the promotion fulfillment folks. Both have been really excited (for me) and very helpful and accomodating. Was raining “down below” this evening. As I climbed the hill toward home, the drops were mixed with some big, wet, sloppy snowflakes. I looked back, and the last post was somewhat negative. I’ve had a change of heart, and all of a sudden am really starting to look forward to this event. I called the promotion fulfillment folks handling the travel for the Sweepstakes. I spoke with Jackie (I’m not sure of the spelling) and she was very friendly and helpful, as has been everyone involved to date. I’ll start by saying I’ve never won anything of any consequence. So, a few weeks ago, I was adding books to my “wish list” on Amazon, since that is a good way to keep track of things as I am browsing. There was a button to enter some Wish List 10th Anniversary Sweepstakes. I didn’t pay any attention, but clicked the button and forgot about it. I got an invite to try Google Voice. Pretty cool, in its concept. Still trying to figure out the best way to fully utilize it. In any event, there could be some changes. But, in this day and age, a ten digit phone number (in the US) can be anyone, anywhere. With LD calling included in many cell phone plans, and even land line calling services, it really doesn’t matter where you “live.” Ok. I don’t really like heavy metal. But, I do have some Rammstein. Then I stumbled upon ‘Pooh does Rammstein’ and was amazed at the editing. Don’t know where this started, or if this is the original (since people copy stuff around on YouTube) but hats off to the editor who created this video. The wind is blowing as we move in through fall. Autumn winds blow across Anchorage… Got a new (to me) digital camera, converted for infrared use. This is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ5, which captures images at 830nm. Simply saying, for a CCD camera, this appears as B&W only. |
